Sparks, NV
Sparks, NV, sits just east of Reno in Washoe County. Founded in 1904 and incorporated the following year, it’s named for then-Nevada Governor John Sparks. The city today covers almost 36 square miles of land, home to a population of more than 104,000 people under the motto, “It’s Happening Here.” It’s also nicknamed “The Rail City” and the “City of Promise.”
Sparks was a small town until a local housing boom hit in the 1950s. The Nugget Casino Resort arrived in the 1980s as the city’s only high-rise casino. The Great Basin Brewing Company is a popular attraction today, while Victorian Square hosts many open-air events, including the “Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off.” Sparks Marina Park is the place for sailing, swimming, fishing and other outdoor recreation.
